Educating the next generation: Summer Gurukul Camp on Nature Awareness: 24 May 2026

On 24 May 2026, we were invited to the Summer Gurukul camp to engage with children aged 5 to 15 about the importance of nature and the essential role greenery plays in our lives. Our objective was to provide a hands-on experience that would deepen the children’s understanding of nature. We aimed to inspire the next generation to appreciate and nurture the environment around them.
During the camp, we focused on several activities:
- Educational Insights: We also shared insights on crucial concepts like cocopeat production and cow dung as manure. We explained how cocopeat is made and its significance in gardening, and discussed how cow dung serves as a beneficial manure, introducing the role of microbes in soil health and plant sustenance.
- Sowing Seeds: We taught the children how to sow seeds and demonstrated the growth process of trees. They learned to mix mud appropriately to ensure healthy plant growth. They also sowed seeds, watered them, and set them aside in their camp space.
- Observation: Over the course of seven days, the children would have the opportunity to water the seeds they sowed and witness their growth firsthand.
- Introduction of GNGF: At the end, we introduced the Green Nature Green Future (GNGF) initiative, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and environmental care.
- Supporting Learning with Saplings: Although we didn’t have the opportunity to conduct full identification sessions, we brought along saplings to help the children learn about different types of plants and their characteristics.

We had a 45-minute window to convey this knowledge, making it both interactive and informative, ensuring the children could grasp the information effectively. By the end of the camp, we hoped to leave a lasting impression on the young minds, fostering a sense of responsibility toward nature and encouraging them to participate in environmental conservation efforts.
