From Planting to Nurturing: A Journey of Growth and Community Engagement

On 19 April 2026, our team returned to BSNL Bhavan to care for the saplings we had planted on 7 September 2025.

We revisit places where we conduct tree plantation drives to assess the growth conditions of our plants. Our observations help us identify issues like the overgrowth of weeds and grass, which can hinder the healthy development of the saplings.

During these follow-up visits, we focus on clearing away any obstructive vegetation to foster better growth and sustainability for our plants. This day was dedicated to cleaning up the area around the saplings, a vital step in ensuring they thrive in their environment. By nurturing our planted trees and maintaining the area, we contribute to a healthier ecosystem and support the continued growth of our green initiatives. Each visit is an opportunity to enhance our efforts and reinforce our commitment to environmental stewardship.

On the morning of our plantation initiative, we, the Green Saarthis, gathered at 6 am to kick off a rewarding day of work, wrapping up around 9 am. One of the memorable moments was savoring the fresh “jambus” straight from the tree, a delightful treat that added to our experience. The day’s highlight was our meeting with Sumesh Modi, who has been instrumental in sponsoring this plantation effort and is the founder of the Surat Heritage Club. He shared his passion for heritage and invited us to explore the Surat Fort, which he has beautifully redesigned. Additionally, we learned about his significant role in getting Champaner recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, showcasing his commitment to preserving cultural landmarks.

Overall, it was an inspiring day filled with hard work, delicious fruits, and enriching conversations about heritage and environmental conservation.
