Greener Tomorrow: 501 Saplings Planted at Singhania Farms

On 21 February 2026, 45 Green Saarthis planted 501 saplings in 200 m2 in 3 hours at Singhania Farms, Surat. This is an important landmark in achieving our target of planting 1 lakh trees this year.

We once again employed the Miyawaki technique to create a multi-layered, dense cover, ensuring that plants grow into a self-sustaining, biodiverse green space. We started by setting up markers to ensure that sapling placement was confined to the approved area. This allowed us to maximize the potential of the available land. This careful demarcation laid the groundwork for the planting that followed.

Then, we carefully dug holes according to the precise markings we had made. Crucially, we ensured the inclusion of natural fertilizers. This step is significant because these organic nutrients are essential to guarantee that the young saplings we are planting will not only survive the initial transplant but also sustain healthy, long-term growth.

We planted a diverse range of native saplings. This included trees that offer dense shade, medicinal and flowering varieties, as well as plants that provide fruit and timber. We ensured that we arranged them in such a way that the space is fruitfully utilised and also the farmhouse resonates not only with vibrant greenery but also with a rich array of varied fragrances.

After planting, we carefully secured the saplings to sticks. We have a standardized, unique way of doing this. We take great care that everyone follows the same method. This not only ensures the safety of the plants but also their identification during future nurturing visits. For instance, this system allows the new Saarthis to distinguish our saplings from the surrounding weeds.

We must acknowledge that this plantation was a joint effort of those who showed up and also those who put in efforts behind the scenes. This includes some of us who went all the way to Navsari to pick up saplings, those who showed up on Friday morning to load saplings from our nursery so they could be transported to the Farms. We were also delighted to welcome some new members joining us this morning to not only help achieve our goals but also fulfil their vision of a greener tomorrow. The visuals would not have been possible without our photographers. The morning would not have been fun without the music and songs.

Land is the foundational element for any successful plantation project. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Singhania family for their invaluable contribution and support, which has made this initiative possible.

As an NGO, we rely heavily on the generosity of our supporters. Donations of all kinds, whether monetary contributions, in-kind gifts, or volunteer time, are of immense importance to sustaining our mission and expanding our reach. We deeply appreciate every little thing that comes our way to help us serve our community. We are also prepared to engage in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.

We look forward to our next plantation at Dumas on 1 March 2026.
